The city's infrastructure among the nation's
Three Florida ports — Miami, Everglades and Tampa Bay — were mentioned on the list of Global Trade Magazine's top 20 ports the publication loves. Also on the list were Savannah, Charleston and Norfolk.
Jacksonville was not included in the ranking, although Global Trade Magazine editor Patrick Dooley said it wasn't a slight to the Port of Jacksonville. Rather, he said, Jacksonville is covered extensively — with the magazine recently naming the city's infrastructure among the nation's Top 10— and the article, which is written annually, was an opportunity to recognize some other ports.
"It wasn't a matter of 'not making the list,' Dooley said. "There were a few ports we wanted to discuss this year. … We wrote about the Port of Jacksonville last year and we probably will next year."
Port Everglades was recognized for its new on-dock Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, established earlier this year through a public-private partnership with Florida East Coast Railway.
Port Miami was noted for its new tunnel, which connects the cargo and cruise ports to the city's highway system without interrupting Downtown traffic.
